DORA: Hey, Wendell, what's this snow on my shoulder?
WENDELL: Dora, it looks like dandruff to me! And, in that case, we're talking dead cells -- thousands, maybe millions of dead skin cells.

DORA: Gross!!! But what am I going to do without all those cells?
WENDELL: Don't worry. While all over your body, you're losing millions upon millions of skin cells every day, your body is also making millions upon millions more to replace them!

DORA: Phew, that's good news. But if I'm constantly losing skin cells all over, how come I only notice big snowy flakes coming off of my scalp?
WENDELL: Because dandruff isn't JUST skin cells....

DORA: So what exactly is dandruff?
WENDELL: To get that whitish scaly stuff, you need to combine those dead cells with dirt and oil!

DORA: Now that's gross!!!
WENDELL: Sorry. On your scalp, just like on the rest of your body, you have glands at the base of every hair follicle. They ooze. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, they ooze too much oil. Then, the dead skin cells, along with dirt in the air gets, trapped like flies to flypaper.

DORA:All this is happening on my head?
WENDELL: Yep. Soon, the whole mess begins to break off in clumps. And, before you know it, flakes of gunk are floating down just like a gentle snowfall.

DORA So can I get rid of this dandruff?
WENDELL: Dora, a little dandruff is perfectly normal. Just brush off the flakes and try washing your hair more often. If you're still bothered by it, try a special shampoo. If the dandruff is extreme, talk to your doctor. But, it generally goes away by itself. Everyone has dandruff now and then ... except earthworms like me!
